Client Brief

DV8 Designs were proudly appointed & brought on board to re-design & re-position The Stanneylands Hotel in Wilmslow, Cheshire. The brief was to revitalise the building & grounds & bring a ‘countryside’ feel with an indoor-outdoor approach in the design to transform this grand manor-like building into a more welcoming and homely hotel and restaurant.

Having previously been in receivership and in a somewhat uncared for state for many years, the new owner’s vision was a major repositioning project to restore this former Cheshire Institution and reopen as a contemporary classic British food and dining destination with exceptional event space and 52 restyled guestrooms – Country house meets City chic.

Objective

The objective was to overhaul & transform a dated core & shell, adding a subtle touch of contemporary country charm and enhancing its timeless elegance & historic characteristics.

The aim of the design was to bring to life the brand values for the venue: “Best of British”, “Cheshire Classic” with a twist, and ensuring that the venue was sympathetically restored to its former glory, whilst still ensuring it was relevant to the market today and for the future by adding in timeless but contemporary detailing & nuances.

Approach

Inspired by the clients brief and the history of the venue, the footprint of the Ground Floor was reconfigured to ensure that the customer journey was fluid and intuitively guided all the key lines of sights and flow to the extended and new services to food and drink. The first-floor demise was re-imagined holding a large event suite for up to 140 guests. along with a new meeting and private dining suite, as well as some of the refurbished bedrooms.

Outcome

With a 4 month closure, the creative overhaul included a complete reconfiguration of the venue which included every customer touchpoint from the sense of arrival to departure, including: Arrival, entrance, lobby and reception area, 52 bedrooms (including three bridal suites and six boutique rooms), two dining and drinking outlets, two event suites, and a private meeting & dining room and external grounds.

Integral to the operational efficiency of the Ground Floor was the need to delight guests with country house touches, and to ensure that the line-of-sight afforded guests the views of the newly landscaped gardens. This was also complimented by the addition of three new terraces perfect for al-fresco dining and drinking, overlooking the woodland and lake.

To the First Floor the newly created smaller private meeting & event suite also boasted private break-out relaxation rooms. All of which positioned the venue to host meetings & a co-working space offer for hotel guests & hospitality visitors alike.
